As a member of the DFW-CHW Association you have the opportunity to be a part of helping us build the association to meet the needs of the CHWs in our community. You are highly encouraged to be an active member of the association by joining one of our committees.

  • Marketing Committee
  • Membership Committee
  • Professional Development Committee

Please read below for a description of each committee and responsibilities.


Community Outreach Committee

Goal: To organize participation in community events and create community outreach opportunities hosted by the association.

 Community Outreach responsibilities shall include, but are not limited to:

  • Search for community service opportunities in Dallas and Tarrant Counties.
  • Build relationships with community organizations in Dallas and Tarrant Counties for potential collaborations on community outreach events.
  • Organize and manage community outreach events.
  • Recruit association members to participate in community outreach opportunities.
  • Promote community outreach events with members and in the community (includes using social media, website, newsletter, etc.)

Any other duties deemed necessary by the rest of the Board of Directors.

Members should possess the following qualifications:

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Strong understanding of social media
  • Proven ability to work independently
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Access, Publisher, Outlook)

Fundraising Committee

Goal: To locate and secure funds from a variety of sources to support the association’s goals.

 Fundraising responsibilities shall include, but are not limited to:

  • Work with the Treasurer to determine association’s funding needs on an annual basis.
  • Develop and implement at least one fundraising activity each year.
  • Identify grant opportunities and write grants that fit within the mission.
  • Work with the Marketing Workgroup to make use of social media to promote fundraising events.

Any other duties deemed necessary by the rest of the board of directors

Members should possess the following qualifications:

  • Proven ability to work independently
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Experience managing funds
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Access, Publisher, Outlook)

Marketing Committee

Goals: (1) To manage communications among members of the association, (2) to promote the association and communicate the CHW role to potential employers and partners, (3) to manage communications with potential association affiliate members.

Marketing and Internal Communication responsibilities shall include, but are not limited to:

  • Develop marketing and media materials, such as newsletters and flyers.
  • Create and efficiently manage social media outlets.
  • Create and maintain an organizational website that will keep members and the outside community informed of ongoing events.
  • Send out reminder emails to all association affiliate members regarding details of upcoming events such as association meetings, conferences, seminars, community programs, professional development, etc
  • Create and disseminate a monthly/quarterly/bi-annual newsletter that highlights association accomplishments and events, as well as important updates.
  • Collaborate and work closely with health department administrators, legislators, heads of health plans, hospitals, physicians’ health organizations, related businesses, academic institutions, community-based organizations and others parties of interest to promote association’s mission and goals.

Membership Committee

Goal: To recruit and manage members of the association.

Membership Development responsibilities shall include, but are not limited to:

  • Continuously recruit new members through a variety of methods (social media, website, at events, etc.)
  • Develop and design membership forms and related materials.
  • Work with the Treasurer to ensure members have paid their dues.
  • Manage existing membership list and ensure other workgroups have access to the most up-to-date member information.
  • Maintain confidentiality of member’s personal information.

Any other duties deemed necessary by the rest of the board of directors.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Strong understanding of social media
  • Proven ability to work independently
  • Excellent organizational skills
    • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Access, Publisher, Outlook)

Professional Development Committee

Goals: To assist association affiliate members in meeting their professional development goals by (1) locating and distributing DSHS certified and other continuing education opportunities for CHWS and CHW instructors, (2) developing DSHS and other continuing education opportunities based on member needs or requests.

Professional Development responsibilities shall include, but are not limited to:

  • Perform an annual survey of association affiliate members to determine continuing education needs for community health workers and instructors.
  • Locate both existing DSHS and other applicable continuing education events and distribute to coalition members on at least a monthly basis or as they become available.
  • Work with association training providers to develop DSHS certified continuing education opportunities for coalition members.
  • Work with the Marketing Workgroup as needed to help promote events.

Any other duties deemed necessary by the rest of the steering committee
